Joan Scott (Habia CEO) was delighted to attend this BFI film screening with a group of Habia Members and friends (pictured in the images below) on Monday 30th October.

Untold Stories: Hair On Set is a new documentary by British actress and filmmaker Fola Evans-Akingbola (pictured above). The documentary shares the experiences of Black talent on film sets and highlights the need for skilled hair stylists who are experienced in Afro hair.

Hearing the issues faced by these actors and actresses gives a new perspective on the meaning of inclusivity and how it is displayed in the workplace. This documentary is set to move the industry to action so everyone can be their authentic self and be supported in that, including behind the scenes.

The film is now available on Sky Documentaries and streaming service. Sky UK&I have announced that they are committed to providing Black talent with stylists who are experienced at working with their hair type. This will be the case for all productions for Sky Original programming.

Habia Members and friends were honoured to be invited to the BFI screening, and to be part of significant steps towards positive change in our industry.

(Habia Members and friends who attended are: The Curly Scott (Scott Cooper), The Muse (Erica Liburd),  Dolly Sembi (Dolly Curls), Arif Allen (AI Beauty), Susan Routledge (Salon Success Freedom), Kim Ford, Jessica Parrish (Shedid & Parrish) and Serena Giscombe.)
